UPDATE 06th April 2025;

Dear clients,

further and end to our last update about network upgrade completion on Monday, March 10, 2025, with some delay we informing about completion during the next 7 - 11th April 2025.
You can always check status from now at https://hostslick.com/clients/announcements/82/Network-Upgrade-completion--.html

We will not send a further email regarding the network upgrade but hereby inform about completion during next week.

Due to unplanned delays from suppliers we can not give 24h notice as announced before but we also dont except any affect on our operation.
Starting from then we will have arround 500Gbit/s+ External Network Capacity with quick possibilties to expand that any time on the fly.
Already in arround 3-4months we except a permanent troughput of +-300-400Gbit.

The Network upgrade completion was already excepted arround end of March but as said there was numerous delays and unplanned events from suppliers we will explain in this email.

We had some delay because of some suppliers. Not everything was going well and working immediately as excepted.
First our supplier had delay with the PDUs installed in the NIKHEF Rack which is our new, own Network POP.
Because this was a new NIKHEF Rack and staff was sick, the PDUs where installed with delay. After that our Network Equipment (Juniper QFX switches) where Racked and
the fiber from GTT 3x100Gbit to our Switch was layed over to the Rack. However port didnt come up. We have investigated and found that transceivers (100GBASE-LR4) werent
sending on all lanes. Only one lane was working. We contacted GTT NOC and they confirmed they where also using LR4 transceivers because our guess was they use normal LR1.

To explain: The difference between LR4 and LR1 is here that LR4 transceivers split the signal into 4 cwdm lambdas internally. Sending 4x25G on each lane (while physical interface speed 100G)
and LR1 transceiver send full 100G on one lane - one laser.

As GTT had confirmed the use of LR4 it seems like other supplier shipped wrong transceiver with a LR4 sticker on it. So the explanation from the Service we hired for NIKHEF Remote hands.
But our Remote Hands services have coded this optic with LR4 microcode. So it was still detected by the Switch as LR4. As good, transceivers replaced.

However one week before the owner of the Datacenter we are located in came place our LR4 transceiver we shipped to the DWDM CI Equipment and made a XC from their Rack to our Rack Juniper QFX in NIKHEF.
After he drive back, the cabling from the DWDM in our datacenter location to our Juniper MX960 was done but the wave between NIKHEF<->Datacenter didnt come up. So we had also delay here
to wait for our datacenter to fix their DWDM.

Our network will have execptional and premium speeds again until end of this week and no congestion anymore in peak hours. In next months we will have alot of growth as we constantly sell out our dedicated servers and
restock up to 100 dedicated servers in End April/May which will be mainly Blade Servers until we restock other types. 10Gbit and 20Gbit uplinks on this blades will be possible. We have continous growth.

With this new NIKHEF POP and own DWDM link between this POP and our datacenter, we can upgrade much faster and add other Upstreams. In next 4-6 weeks we except to start add ERA-IX 100G port as well.
as InterIX and SpeedIX are free also, we think also to add a link here since they are in NIKHEF too and Cross connects dont cost anything in NIKHEF. So we can pull the most for our network in which we have invested enourmous amount of money in it, also by purchasing our Juniper MX960-PREM3 in end of Q3 2024 and finally using the power of this device.

In next months and years we will keep expanding our network and invest into own selfmade XDP/ebpf ddos protection.

Thanks.

Kind Regards,
HostSlick e. K.
